Tessalor sets no cookies of its own. Not one, not even a “strictly necessary” one. The few things this site remembers are kept in your browser’s local storage, which — unlike a cookie — is never attached to a network request. There is no server to send it to.
The advertising script does set one, on this domain, and it sets it whether or not you allow personalisation. That is the whole of the exception, it is described in full below, and Pro is what removes it. The panel further down reads your own browser and shows you what is really there, so nothing on this page has to be taken on trust.
What is stored on your device
All of it is first-party, none of it identifies you, and every one of these is optional in the sense that the site works without it.
| Name | What it holds | Written when | Kept |
|---|---|---|---|
tessalor:theme |
Light or dark. | You use the theme toggle. | Until you clear it |
tessalor:consent |
Whether you allowed personalised advertising, and when. | You answer the banner. | 12 months |
tessalor:licence |
Your Pro licence, as a signed token. It proves the purchase without us knowing who you are. | You activate a licence. | Until you clear it |
tessalor:recent |
The slugs of the last six tools you opened, so the hub can offer them back. No titles, no times, no history beyond six. | You open a tool. | Until you clear it |
tessalor:favourites |
The slugs and order of the tools you have kept, plus any private names you gave them. No timestamps and no limit — it is a list you built. | You keep a tool. | Until you clear it |
tessalor:sw-evicted |
A one-shot marker used to clear a stale offline cache. Session only. | Automatically, once, after an update. | Until you close the tab |
What is on your device right now
Read live out of your own browser when this page loaded. Nothing here was sent anywhere to produce it.
Checking… if this line does not change, JavaScript is off — in which case the answer is that nothing is stored at all.
Third parties
Cloudflare Web Analytics
Counts page views. It sets no cookies and builds no profile — that is the entire reason it was chosen over Google Analytics, which does both. It runs whether or not you accept advertising, because there is nothing to consent to.
Google AdSense
The only third party on this site, and the only thing that can set a cookie. Two adverts per page pay for the free tier, and they are shown whatever you choose here. What your choice changes is whether they may be personalised.
Personalised off — the default, and what you get if you decline or never answer. Adverts are chosen from the page you are looking at rather than from a profile about you, because Google is asked for non-personalised ads. Google still receives what any request carries: your IP address, your browser’s user agent and the page URL. Nothing you type into a tool is included, because none of it leaves your device.
Non-personalised is not cookie-free, and we are not going to
pretend otherwise. Even with personalisation off, Google sets
__gads and __gpi on this domain and may set its
own under doubleclick.net. They are used to cap how often you
see the same advert, to count impressions and to detect fraud — not to
build a profile of you. This page used to claim declining wrote no
advertising cookie at all, while the panel above showed you the cookie
sitting in your browser. The panel was right.
A genuinely storage-free mode does exist: AdSense calls it limited ads, and it is served only against an IAB Transparency & Consent Framework signal, which only a certified consent platform can produce. We have not integrated one yet, so it is not what you are getting today. When it lands, declining here will mean no advertising cookie at all, and this paragraph will say so.
Personalised on — Google additionally uses those
cookies, and others under doubleclick.net and
googlesyndication.com, to build and read an advertising profile
and pick adverts from it. Those are Google’s, described in
Google’s cookie notice, and we cannot enumerate them here honestly because Google changes them
without telling us. The difference your choice makes is the profile and the
targeting, which is real; it is not the difference between a cookie and no
cookie.
Adverts are how the free tier is paid for, so declining does not remove them. If you would rather not see them at all, Tessalor Pro removes them permanently for a one-off payment — the same tools, no advertising, no third-party code on the page at all. That is the only way to switch them off, and saying so plainly is more honest than a button that pretends to.
Your choice
Personalised advertising is … on this device. Adverts themselves are on either way.
