Why the same running pace can feel harder

The watch measures an external ratio: elapsed time divided by distance. Your effort is relative and can change at the same pace with hills, wind, heat, fatigue, illness, surface and current fitness. That is why an even split sheet is a useful timing baseline but not proof of even effort. Use breathing, the talk test, perceived exertion and any guidance appropriate to your health to interpret what the pace costs on that day.
